Structured data (JSON-LD)
Machine-readable information describing a page’s content. Schema.org provides a vocabulary; JSON-LD is one format used to express it. Structured data does not guarantee AI citations.
Explanation
For example, Product markup can identify a product, while Offer markup can describe its price and availability. The information should match what readers can see on the page.
Google uses structured data to understand content and support eligible rich results. JSON-LD is not the only supported format; Microdata and RDFa are also available.
Google does not require special schema for AI Overviews or AI Mode. Useful markup complements clear, accessible content; adding more types, author fields or product facts is not proof that an AI service will cite the page.
