GEO (Generative Engine Optimization)

Generative Engine Optimization: improving how content and brands appear in answers from generative AI services. It covers being found, cited and described accurately.

Explanation

GEO concerns generated answers, while SEO traditionally concerns discovery and visibility in search results. They share foundations such as accessible pages, useful content and clear evidence. AEO and LLMO describe overlapping practices.

The research that introduced GEO tested content changes such as adding statistics, quotations and sources. Its reported gains apply to that experimental setting; they do not establish durable increases in organic discovery or traffic.

In practice, identify relevant questions, review the answers and sources, improve the underlying information, then measure again. Keep mentions, citations and business outcomes separate: improvement in one does not prove improvement in the others.
