Zero-click search

A search that ends without a click to an external website. Direct answers, featured snippets and AI summaries can satisfy a request on the search surface itself.

Explanation

Someone checking a simple fact may stop after reading the answer. Someone comparing suppliers may still open the sources, visit a company website or return later through another channel.

In a study of US Google browsing in March 2025, Pew Research Center observed fewer clicks to traditional results when AI summaries were present. This is a dated observation about that sample, not a universal rule for every market or query.

Measure brand presence, citations, visits and conversions separately. Exposure without a click can matter, but does not by itself demonstrate awareness, trust or sales.
