AI share of voice
A brand’s share of measured brand appearances relative to a defined comparison group. It describes competitive presence, whereas visibility measures appearances across all sampled answers.
Explanation
For a mention-based calculation, count each brand at most once per answer. Divide the appearances of the target brand by the total appearances of all brands in the comparison group, then multiply by 100.
For example, across 50 answers, brand A appears in 30, B in 50 and C in 20. A has 30% share of voice (30 ÷ 100), but 60% visibility (30 ÷ 50). Several brands can appear in one answer.
Tools may use different definitions, including citation-based or demand-weighted measures. State the method, brand group, prompts, engines and period. If no tracked brand appears, this share cannot be calculated. Compare trends only under comparable conditions.
